The Dallas Arboretum is nine miles from Bailey’s Uptown Inn but if you are in Dallas in the Spring or Fall it’s worth the drive.  They recently opened up a whole new section of the gardens which is supposed to be for children but it’s really fascinating for adults, too.  It’s like an eight acre outdoor science museum.  There’s a section about solar power, water power, a live maze,  a plant lab, an edible garden and much more.   I recommend visiting in the late morning.  The park is open daily from 9am to 5pm.  Alternatively if you go for a concert you can check out the park when it is technically closed and there are food trucks to serve up a nice picnic while you listen.  Concerts are held on the lawn and start at 7pm.  In October and November you can also see the pumpkin houses and pumpkin patch.
