We decided that since we get so many requests for recipes from guests that we should start posting them once a month.   This summer we started to serve a new french toast that we call strawberry balsamic french toast.  It came about because my niece, Riley, who has an awesome food blog called My Daily Morsel made this strawberry balsamic jam.  It was so delicious that we thought it would make a really great topping for french toast.  It’s delicious because the strawberries are sweet and juicy and the balsamic adds a hint of rich, tart flavor.   The recipe follows.  Hope you enjoy it.

Serves 6

2 cups of chopped strawberries
1 cup of sugar
2 Tbl. of balsamic vinegar
6 eggs
1 ½ cups milk
challah bread – 6 1″ slices or 12 1/2″ slices

1.) Whisk together eggs and milk in a shallow bowl
2.) Heat griddle or nonstick skillet and add butter to coat surface
3.) Cook strawberries, sugar, and balsamic vinegar in a medium pan on medium heat for about 10 minutes stirring occasionally
4.) While strawberries are cooking drench bread in egg mixture and cook until browned on both side
5.) Pour strawberry balsamic mixture over french toast and serve
