I’m constantly hearing from guests “we didn’t even know this neighborhood existed.” Visitors to Dallas are always surprised that there is such a pedestrian friendly, urban neighborhood in a city like Dallas. I wanted to give the guests at Bailey’s Uptown Inn some ideas for things to do in Uptown this summer. Here’s a list of my favorites.
- Take a walk on the Katy Trail. This trail is a walking, biking, jogging trail that goes almost to SMU at the north end and down to the American Airlines center on the south end. What’s so great about the trail is you can jump on and get in some exercise and stop at some of Dallas’ best restaurants just a few steps from the trail. My personal favorite at the north end is Toulouse, a french bistro which has a great brunch and delicious dinner. My favorite at the south end is the Ice House, which is an Austin-style beer garden. You can hop onto the trail a few blocks from Bailey’s.
- Get out of the heat and catch a movie at the Magnolia theater followed by dinner in the West Village. The Magnolia is an art-house theater which is just a short trolley ride from Bailey’s. Did I mention that you can enjoy your movie with a glass of wine or a beer? Just outside the theater are about seven restaurants to choose from with great people watching. I love Grimaldi’s, best pizza in Dallas.
- Do some shopping on Knox Avenue followed of course by a snack. Knox just happens to be at the northern tip of the Katy Trail and it has tons of great places like Pottery Barn (both the kids store and the main one), Z Gallerie, Apple, Crate & Barrel, Froggie’s (which has unique kids toys) and Restoration Hardware just to name a few. All the stores are within walking distance of each other so you can park at one end of the street and visit them all. Follow this link to see a map of all the stores and restaurants.
Stay tuned for more suggestions!
