I often have guests ask what they should do on a short getaway to Uptown. If you are planning a quick trip to Uptown Dallas and you want to plan an itinerary here is my list of must see sites. The list is geared to things you can do on foot from Bailey’s Uptown Inn as your starting point.
.) Ride the trolley through Uptown. The trolley is staffed by volunteers who are always very helpful and informative and it’s free. It makes a loop through Uptown. If you get on on the west side of Mckinney Avenue it heads south first. If you get on on the east side of Mckinney Avenue it goes north.
.) Visit the Dallas Museum of Art and the Nasher Sculpture Garden. These two museums are directly across from one another and the trolley stops right between them. The Nasher can get toasty in the summer afternoon and much of it is outdoors so plan for a morning visit in the summer.
.) Walk down to the JFK 6th Floor Museum and get the audio tour. The museum has lots to read beyond the audio guide but the guide does an excellent job of highlighting the best parts.
.) Ride the trolley north to the West Village and people watch while having a cocktail on a patio. This shopping area has lots of outdoor dining options. Mi Cocina is great for Mexican food and margaritas but there are other choices. There is also a wine tasting place called Cru Food and Wine Bar.
.) In the morning take a walk on the Katy Trail. This trail goes north to SMU and is a great place to get some exercise. There are also lots of restaurants and bars right off the trail if you want to take a break. I really enjoy Toulouse for brunch or dinner. It’s a French Bistro complete with dogs on the patio.
