If you’re looking for things to do in Uptown this weekend here is a short list.
Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey’s Barnum 200 – celebrate the 200th anniversary of Barnum and Bailey’s circus at the American Airlines Center. The show features performers of every stripe, including high-speed motorcyclists, trapeze artists, high-wire acrobats, and contortionists. Show up 90 minutes before the show starts to experience the animal open house, where you will be able to get up close and personal with the show’s many animals, including tigers and elephants. The American Airlines Center, where the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars play, is easy to reach using Uptown’s trolley lines. The show runs from July 27 through August 7. For showtimes, click here.
One of Broadway’s most famous musicals, Guys and Dolls, is in Dallas for one weekend only. The show is at Dallas’s historic Fair Park Music Hall. Fair Park is also the site of the annual State Fair of Texas. Guys and Dolls, which was nominated for a Tony in 2009, is the classic story of a pair of small-time gamblers, Nathan Detroit and Sky Masterson, and the women in their lives, Sarah Brown and Miss Adelaide, set against the backdrop of depression-era New York City. Guys and Dolls is funny, witty, and romantic, and should have something for everyone. The show runs July 19 through July 31. For showtimes, click here.
See What I Wanna See – an off-Broadway musical that makes its Dallas premiere at Uptown’s Theater 3. The show is set in mid-20th century Manhattan and is based on three separate short stories. See What I Wanna See was nominated for nine Drama Desk awards, including Best Musical, in its original off-Broadway run. Tickets are $30 per person at Theater 3, located a few blocks from Bailey’s on Routh Street, on Friday, August 5, at 8:00 P.M.
Kings of Leon – Kings of Leon will be playing at the Gexa Energy Pavilian in Fair Park on Friday July 29 at 7:30. The opening act is Band Of Horses. This concert will be big and hot, but you can listen while lying on the grass with a blanket and a big iced drink. Click here for ticket info.
